Initiative for Women Miners in Africa (IWoMA) Launches African Girl Miner's Fund

17 Nov 2023

London; The Initiative for Women Miners in Africa (IWoMA) is proud to announce the launch of the African Girl Miner's Fund, aimed at mitigating sexual and gender-based violence at mines across the continent.

The fund, established by IWoMA, seeks to address the pressing issue of violence against girls working in mines by providing resources, support, and advocacy initiatives. Through collaborative efforts with stakeholders, IWoMA aims to create safer and more empowering environments for young girls engaged in mining activities.

"We are thrilled to introduce the African Girl Miner's Fund as part of our commitment to safeguarding the rights and well-being of girls in mining communities," said Dr. Comfort Asokoro-Ogaji, Executive Director of IWoMA. "This fund represents a significant step towards addressing the challenges faced by young girls in the mining sector and creating lasting change."

The African Girl Miner's Fund will support various initiatives, including education and awareness programs, access to healthcare services, and community-based interventions. IWoMA invites donors, partners, and stakeholders to join in supporting this critical initiative to protect and empower young girls working in mines across Africa.
